The Miracles
Miracle 2 is followed by bad news
We went to Sizzlers and celebrated the good news. Everyone toasted their glasses in the air to me. I felt great. I still used the crutches but only used one now. It was hard, but I loved every bit of it.
My mom called the doctor the next day and told him of the good news.
The doctor told my mom not to let me walk until he examined me. He told her that the leg might not be ready for such exercise. She agreed and made an appointment to see him the next day.
The doctor examined me very closely. He took x-rays and a blood test. He checked my wounds and excused himself from the room.
"I'll be back in a minute. I need to make a phone call." he left the room saying nothing else.
Miracle 2
15 minutes later he came in. He said, "I have Good news for you. Your wound is healing."
"Really, that's wonderful" I said.
"But, I don't want you to walk on your leg just yet." he explained.
"You need to heal because you will have to have another operation."
"The screws and pins must come out before your bones can heal completely. They must come out in order for your leg to function properly. "
"My leg is not functioning properly?" I asked worried.
"Yes and No" "You must have all the metal taken out of your leg. I didn't mention this to you before because I thought you had enough to deal with. I have some bad news also."
Bad News
"Bad News" my mother asked.
"Your insurance money never came in the mail. We billed Victoria's father and have not received any payment or reply."
"He said she was covered. It must be wrong. Call the insurance now and I will speak to them myself." said in a worried voice.
The doctor called the insurance company and they told him that a check was mailed out 30 days prior and sent to Vince. Vince was supposed to surrender the check over to the doctor but has not yet done so.
My mother cried, “Can I call her father from your phone?"
"Yes go right ahead." handing her the phone and leaving the room.
"Vince, I am at the doctor with Victoria right now. Victoria has started to walk again and has started healing. But the doctor says there is a problem. They have not received any money from you or the insurance. Did you get the check? I spoke to Blue Cross and they told me that they sent you the check a month ago."
Fighting erupted and she hung up the phone. She turned to me and said, "He said he sent the check last week. He's pissed because of the blood test. He threatened to cancel your insurance if I don't submit your blood sample for the paternity test.
"Oh my God mom, more crap from Vince. Why does he hate me mom?" I cried out.
The doctor came back in and my mother told him that everything was going to be fine. She told him that Vince claimed to have mailed the check more then a week prior.
"Well let's hope so. I will not be able to treat her anymore if I don't get some kind of money."
We left the office. There was silence during most of the drive home. I felt like a dark cloud was following me as we drove.
And yet more bad news to come
