That made me mad as hell. My Mother is dumping for a stranger. She's discarding me for a man of bad looks. This abandonment left feeling unwanted like discarded trash. I really didn't want to live with my Grandmother. I know how she is and she would be hard to live with. I cried pleading with my Mom to stay. She told me it was just for a few weeks. She promised she would come back for me soon. She gave me $185 dollars and told me to give $100 to my Grandmother. I did as she asked; I gave my Grandmother the money. I was told I could spend the rest of it on whatever I wanted.

My Grandfather was disappointed in my Mom. He spoke of her in a tone that I couldn't keep from overhearing as he talked about her with my Grandmother. I remember him saying how awful he thought it must be for me to be left like that. Especially since my Mom was with a gangster guy. I overheard them say she was on drugs. My Grandfather told my Grandmother he would take me to Sears to spend the money she gave me. When I heard that, I was anxious to buy an Atari Game Player.

Grandfather drove me to Sears and let me loose. I looked at everything, and decided an Atari Game was just what I needed to make me feel better. The Atari Game was expensive, it cost $185. I thought, "That’s the amount Mom gave me exactly, I shouldn't have given Grandma all the money." But then again, she was going to allow me to stay at her house; she was going to feed me hot meals. My selfish mind played voices in my head. I shrugged with disappointment.

I told my Grandfather, “I don't have enough money."
He asked the store clerk how much it was and the clerk told him the price and noticed my sad face when he said how much the cost was. The clerk saw my despair and told my Grandfather that Sears had a player that was just like Atari, played all the Atari games, and priced at only $85 dollars.

I smiled immediately. "Wow I thought in my head". It's going to work out. It even came with the game Space Invaders. I grabbed the box and went to the cash register with a big smile on my face. He rang up the Sears game player and it totaled $91.00 dollars. I started to sweat because I only had $85.00 dollars. My Grandfather saw my dilemma, and fronted me $6.00 dollars. We drove home and I ran to the TV and hooked it up.
